Welcome

Work on the Fort Hero Veterans Barracks is continuing. The former nursing home is undergoing renovation after several years of neglect. The Northeast Louisiana Veterans Association is working to build a place that homeless veterans can call home.
NELVA President Al Sanders: "We're trying to make things better for these veterans. We're having them come by day by day, not having anywhere to live and they need some kind of help."
When the work is done, the barracks will provide shelter and support for veterans, both male and female. The building was donated to the veterans association by Bishop Johnston. Generous donations of time and material from various individuals and businesses are keeping the work progressing...but more help is needed.
Gary Littleton, NELVA: "Our biggest need is money. We have electrical stuff. We need electrical wire bad...plumbing stuff...pipe fittings, things like that."
You can visit and see the progress that has been made...and see what remains to be done at the barracks.
